Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
With the city as our classroom, we completely immersed ourselves in a different culture. No two days were ever exactly alike, and every discussion, lecture, site visit, exploration assignment, and free day took us somewhere new and interesting. The workload was totally manageable (2 books and a few handouts per course). |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Teachers and university staff were very knowledgable and quick to assist whenever necessary. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
Uh-mazing... I have a wheat allergy, so bread and pasta were off-limits, but everything else was delicious, cheap and somewhat spicy (but not terribly "hot"). |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
We met tons of native university students who took us around the city to great restaurants, coffee shops and helped translate for us. Istanbul was the 2010 European Cultural Capital, so there were lots of cultural events throughout the summer. There's always tons of stuff to do. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
A few students on our trip actually had some minor medical issues (like ear infections, stomach problems, etc.) and they were treated immediately by local physicians. Every situation was handled appropriately and swiftly, which made the rest of us feel pretty safe. The government also has a lot of security everywhere around the city, so there was never a moment I felt unsafe. It was great. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
