Spain Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs
This internship abroad has furthered my interest in law and the practice thereof. It also developed, individualized, and internalized the Spanish language in ways that continued classroom study could not have done. The program was, without a doubt, worthwhile, and I would highly recommend this program to others similarly situated as myself.

Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 1 month - 6 months |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The internship in which I participated provided an exceptional Spanish legal education, allowing me to learn about the Spanish system of law and government as well as the practice of law in Spain and Europe generally. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The program administrator was interested in my progress and performance, but the activities arranged (e.g., cultural excursions) and general program organization among other interns seemed disorganized. I would recommend centralizing the program more, and organizing more activities and interactions between other interns. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The host family with whom I lived was fantastic! They were very helpful in assisting me to learn about the language and culture of Barcelona and Spain generally, and I hope to remain in contact with them while in the United States. |
* Food: |
The food was fantastic! Every meal was fantastic and I wish that I could continue eating many of the dishes I was able to taste in Spain! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Being in Spain when it won it's first World Cup was the most memorable and fantastic cultural experience for which one could ask! Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I did not experience any negative health issues, and felt safe throughout the duration of the program. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Language acquisition improvement? |
I had studied Spanish for seven years prior to participating in this study abroad program, but during the program I was able to individualize the language; that is, I developed my own way of speaking Spanish, rather than speaking as a conglomeration of speakers that I have encountered in the United States. |
