Spain Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, I loved being in Spain and wish every day that I could go back. I don't know if I would like to take the classes again although they were helpful they were very long and didn't leave us much time to do anything in Madrid.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The teachers were very nice and understanding.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

They were knowledgeable about the country and they made me feel very comfortable.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We stayed in the University of Mara and at Hotel Natali

It was very hot and we needed to buy a fan which didn't do much.

* Food:

It was nice that there was a nonmeat dish but some of the meals were very repetitive.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

You only were able to really experience the country if you signed up for the tours which were a great deal of money for some and felt it wasn't fair.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We had to give our key to the desk before we left and then we had to show our school id to get back in.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? At the hotel i spent about 8 euros a day and at the dorm i would spend maybe 3 euro since it was mostly already paid for except on sundays.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? No, I had good information from my school.

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
