Spain Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
YES!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were easy, but that was what I was looking for. I looked at my study abroad program as an opportunity to learn a lot outside of the classroom.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The fact that BCA is a small program allowed for individualized attention from the administrators.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved the senora whom I lived with and am still inc contact with her. My time spent at home greatly increased my language ability and was some of the most fun times abroad.

* Food:

I was overfed and gained a lot of weight. But I loved it!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The orientation field trip was an excellent way to bond with my classmates. I am still very close with the people that I met during BCA.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt very safe at all times.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I do not remember.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Most of my expenditures revolved around my travels during the weekend and after the program. BCA includes 3 meals a day, and thus I did not spend much during the week.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Fluent
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? None - I passed out of the foreign language requirement because I am a native Spanish speaker
Language acquisition improvement?

Most students spoke English to one another. However, living in a Spanish household allowed an opportunity for improving language skills.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
