Spain Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, because I have had a lot of job offers becomes now I'm considered "almost fluent". So this has helped me a great deal especially since jobs are scarce.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I liked the workload I received in Granada as compared to the US because there was a lot of reading and reciting. A lot of visual learning, which is my best strength. I also liked that the teachers did not dictate to you as you wrote things down, they spoke with you and made sure you understand what is going on.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I liked the program a lot, saw a great deal, learned a lot about history,a nd made some interesting friends that I still keep in touch with today. I liked that the program size was small because everyone knew each other and had the chance to get to know each other.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was not too keen on my living situation. Yes, the family was nice and help me out with the language a great deal but the living accommodations were less than ideal when I saw how other students were living. The room I stayed in was small enough, then you throw in two bodies and it was irritating. There were no drawers/desks/ and a small closet for both of our stuff. Most of the time I kept my clothes in my suitcase. The host family was extremely nice and I enjoyed them.

* Food:

I liked the food, especially the papas fritas :). No special place on where to dine, the food there are equally good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Bull fighting was an experience for me and out of every place I saw I enjoyed that the most and in a close second is the Alhambra.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Very safe city. VERY. I wouldn't recommend hanging out til 7am but if you do it is perfectly fine to walk back at that hour and not have to worry about thugs coming to kill you.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The program directors are awesome! Also, you will meet people you will way to stay in contact with. I never keep in touch with anybody but I felt closer to some of these people than to persons who I spent four years of college with.
