Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I spent a lot of money while I was abroad. It is very expensive to live there and go out and enjoy the nightlife. Also, purchasing souvenirs was a must. |
* Was housing included in your program cost? | Yes |
* Was food included in your program cost? | Yes |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Only some of our meals were included. A lot of the meals that were included were disgusting so I ended up having to spend money later in the day for food that tasted better. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | It is very easy to save money abroad you just have to be smart about it. I would calculate how much money you are bringing and create a weekly budget. At the end of each day you can record what you spent to make sure you are on track. |

The Nearly Native or Trail BlazerCraving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.' |
