Bad program but a great experience February 28, 2023
By A student (Russian, Middlebury College) - abroad from 08/19/2022 to 12/10/2022 with
SRAS: Bishkek - Central Asian Studies
Going abroad was totally worthwhile. I learned so much that it is hard to synthesize in to one statement. It totally changed my perspective on life.

Review Your Program
|
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes were challenging and the teachers were great but the school was not very good. |
|
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Of the two on site administrators, one was fantastic (Taylor) and one was bad (TJ). Taylor ended up handling everything for me. |

The program definitely gave you a lot of freedom which let you integrate with the local culture very well. |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I did not have any health issues in Kyrgyzstan, but I doubt they would have been easy to address based off of the experiences of others. |
| * Safety: |
Bishkek felt extremely safe except for road transportation. |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
The Program was really poorly run but that lack of structure allowed me so much freedom and exploration that I would not have gotten otherwise. It was a blessing in disguise but still a bad program. |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
| To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
