What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I got everything out of this trip that I had wanted and even more! Prior to flying, I had asked my roommate ( who is from Greece ) to tell me the places and activities that she recommended I go to. She of course mentioned the traditional attractions like the London Eye, Big Ben ( who I must say was a great tall fellow ), and the “building that looks like a bullet (the Gherkin)”. As a group we did so many of the traditional visits as well as regular day-to-day exploring of the city. We went to parks and laid down to enjoy the sky a bit. I must tell you about my best experience with the Queen’s Guard. I know that they cannot move and cannot speak unless they are instructing you to move away. However, I was able to get a guard to nod! Yes! One of the guards who I wanted to take a “selfie” with had an eyelash under his eye. I, of course, saw the potential danger in this so I asked him to nod yes if he would like me to take if off. He nodded yes. I then asked him if he was sure and he nodded yes again! There is a picture to prove this as well. After I saved his life, I took the picture with him and I said you’re welcome. Of course, we also visited some of the banks and got a feel for what a job oversees would feel like. I can say that I am now looking for an internship abroad after this trip. The overall work environment and culture is one that I loved. We were even able to witness and converse with some Stevens students who live and work in London. The trip was worthwhile and my only regret is not being able to stay longer and learn more. I will be back though!

  • I wish the program was spread out a bit more to allow a bit more free time.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I would have researched more places to go, rather than such tourist-y areas as I did. Perhaps I would have asked more locals for their opinions prior to flying out.

Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
