About
Stranmillis University College, a university college of Queen's University Belfast, is a recognised leader in educational research, teaching and learning, annually hosting over 100 international students for semester and short programmes. Our Study Abroad programme for US students is aimed at student teachers, teaching assistants and those involved in community education, sport, health promotion and youth work. Gaining teaching experience in a local school, or school and community-based experiences for non-education students, is a key element of the programme. Our International Team are keen to hear from US colleges and universities interested in developing tailored programmes for their students in Belfast.
SEMESTER PROGRAMMES
Semester students typically take 60 CATS or 15 US Credits and can choose from a wide range of classes, including liberal arts, education, childhood studies, health and exercise science, theology and biblical studies.
SHORT PROGRAMMES
Bespoke short courses are available in our core academic areas, alongside a number of interdisciplinary programmes, e.g. Irish literature and culture; health and education; youth studies; community development; and the arts, media and culture. These modules can be combined with a range of internship and service learning opportunities in local schools or youth and community organisations. Our International Team are keen to hear from US colleges and universities interested in developing tailored programmes for their students in Belfast. We are able to provide packages which may include tuition, cultural experiences and catered accommodation. Contact us at studyabroad@stran.ac.uk
INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL
The International Summer School is an interdisciplinary programme which provides students with an immersive experience in the areas of peacebuilding and reconciliation, exploring the history, politics, religion and culture of Northern Ireland. An intensive two week programme, the Summer School looks at the role social justice plays in bringing about community transformation and considers how policy and practice in Northern Ireland might be useful when seeking to address political, racial, religious and economic divisions in other communities, especially within the United States of America at this time.
