Ephemeral Dream March 03, 2021

By (Maryland Institute College of Art) - abroad from 03/09/2021 to 05/01/2021 with

Studio Arts College International (SACI): Florence - SACI in Florence

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I was elated to have an opportunity to work at the Santa Maria del Fiore as a guide, that was one of the most memorable experience I will probably have. Along with that, as a student who studies Art History I was happy to take all the chances at the provided field trips, which SACI provided a lot.

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Administration and faculty members were all very welcoming since the beginning of the program. During the pandemic chaos the faculty members were very comforting and provided advice to plan accordingly.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Everything was great except the door was difficult to open -- I thought that I had the wrong key at first

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It's just ridiculous that my semester abroad was cut in half due to the pandemic :)

Finances

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

* What could be improved?
  • Mixers? Lot of international / American students only mingled with themselves, not with the locals.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I should try to get out more instead of living as a shut-in studying for a mid-term... I delayed going to all the places I've wanted to go to till after the mid-term and couldn't do anything due to the pandemic.

Comments: The instructor was fantastic and it was essentially everything that I could have hoped for in a conversation class. What the instructor expected of the students were fair and clear, and all the materials provided were extremely informative and inspiring. Even during the pandemic situation, it was clear that the instructor did their best to acoomodate the changing circumstances via clear communications which I valued and respected a lot.
