SACI - Florence Past Review
By Jessica P (Painting/Installation, SMFA - School of the Museum of Fine Arts) for
Studio Arts College International (SACI): Florence - SACI in Florence
I gained alot from traveling on my own, and meeting new people NOT through the school. Florencce as a city is very americanized so it wasnt a culture shock,but it is very beautiful.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The academic course i took was fine. Unproffessional, not a real art school, half the people there didnt even know what a portfolio was or ever touched paint. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
It was so-so. |
* Food: |
Theschool does not provide any food. ALL the food in Florence is expensive, the last month there i was starving because all the meals were expensive and portions very very small. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
More than half the school were not even art students. All the serious art students went in one social group and the other 3/4 of the school went into another. Most of theschool is stupid people who came to the school to just experiment, it is NOT a serious art school like the school says they are. They accept anyone who has money, its disgusting. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I felt safe, buti bought a knife just incase |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
Language acquisition improvement? |
NOT due to this program, where everything is americanized. But living in florence itself made me able to say a few sentences |
A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | DONT COME HERE, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN |

Comments: | The teacher was nice, of the students half of them were "advanced" and the other half was "intermediate (if even that)" so they mixed people who knew what they were doing up with people who didnt know what they were doing! frustrating, pointless class. |
