Study Abroad Programs in Argentina

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned so much. Before I left I had a lot of fear about speaking in Spanish and within a day or two I was practically fluent.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was extremely too much, we were unable to enjoy our time. We did not get out of class until 5pm and by that time we were incredibly tired and had tons of homework to do so being able to go out and explore the city was out of the question. The grading system and education system were the same as at TU because it was a TU program.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

GIC was amazing, they went above and beyond the expected.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My house was close to the school and other things, but if you went too far on one side then you ended up in a bad part of town. I didn't have to buy anything for the house except for washing detergent that I used to wash my own clothes.

* Food:

If you love meat, then this is the place for you!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I loved the gaucho farm and the trip to Colonia, Uruguay! I also loved going to all the museums.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The city was about as safe as NYC so just be aware of your surroundings and your possessions.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Set a budget and make sure you stick with it.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Intermediate
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? Spanish 311
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Just speaking to people everyday in the host language helped the most with practice.
