Spanish, who I am, and that I love traveling
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The courses at UB are perfectly paced to allow you to travel ans study at the same time. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Sol education is by far the best program in comparison to the program's of the other students I studied with. No comparison. We had more personal support and small group activities. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Other than the fact that breakfast was small, the house that I was in (that of Helena Gorostiza) was perfect for a study abroad experience. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. |
* Food: |
The meals were fantastic. Like I said though, Argentina does breakfast differently than we do over here. Fantastic dinners every night. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I wish I had taken classes with locals, but that was my own decision. My program director introduced us to his children, who helped us make friends with other locals. Very cool city. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Very safe city. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
There's no other program to logically choose if you are looking for Spanish language immersion. SOL Abroad set me up with a host mom and director that were legit as can be, who showed me the right ways to enjoy the city, but also cared about me as a person. It was also the cheapest program by a few thousand dollars... |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
It was more expensive than expected. Mostly because lunch was not included. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | If lunch is not included, make it at the host family house, don't eat out every day. |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
|
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | Intermediate |
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Advanced |
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? | 300 level history course |
How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | Meet locals, get out of your comfort zone and make a lot of mistakes! |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
