As long as you take some basic safety precautions, (such as never putting your purse on the ground at a restaurant and not staying out late) you will be completely safe.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? become a good bargainer. Don't buy very many souvenirs until you've had good practice bargaining.

Much of the reason we weren't encouraged to use German was because the German teacher that we had at the Amerika Institut was very poor. When we learned very little, we had no confidence to speak.

Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Find opportunities to practice with locals; exchange english practice for german. Keep speaking even if you feel silly and no one understands you. Just learn to keep trying and laugh at yourself along the way.

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? International Travel really isn't that scary if you're just taking the right precautions.
