Study Abroad Programs in Czech Republic

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned so many things not only about the daily operation of a national level museum but, also about myself. It was definitely worth while. I gained some of the best memories of my life. I still keep in contact with my internship supervisor and one of the other interns at the museum and two of my roommates. I nearly did not get on the plane to come home... like my cab was waiting down stairs and I was debating whether I should tell them to leave without me.

I learned so much about the day to day behind the scenes work that goes on at a national level museum through my internship.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Filip and Samuel were always available if we needed anything. They also took the time to check in on us and see how things were going throughout our program.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Our housing was awesome. Three beautiful balconies. Two things that could have been improved upon were the addition of a fan for the unit and a shower curtain since the shower door did not go all the way across the shower opening.

* Food:

The food was good in the Czech Republic but, I do not like pork so I sometimes had limited choices when going out to eat.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Our apartment was in a typical Czech neighborhood so, I was able to experience the local culture. People in the neighborhood did not always speak English so you had to get creative if you did not know how to say something in Czech.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Thankfully I did not need any health services while I was in Prague. However, Panrimo does provide health insurance just incase and the coordinators on the ground can help you find a medical facility if need be.

* Safety:

Never ever did I feel even the slightest bit unsafe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I did not give myself a strict budget so this is a hard question for me to answer. If I wanted it I bought it. Figure on the average lunch costing you about $5 and dinner $10 if you were to eat out. Beer is about $1.50 a glass and a mixed drink about $5.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? If you really want to save money make sure you get a place with a kitchen so you can cook at home. Making your own meals will save you a considerable amount of money.

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I would have known that I was going to fall in love with the city of Prague. That way I would have taken the 3 month internship option instead of the 2 month. Also, they do not have mac and cheese in the Czech and I live off of it in the U.S. and missed it so much.
