Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

the work load in my opinion was excellent. we had enough work to stay occupied with the books but not so much that we werent able to enjoy the experience and the service learning projects, field trips etc. The only difference in the grading system between the host university and my home university is that in order to recieve an A all you need is a 70% which is awesome although we were on the grading system at our home university.

On-site administration of your program

The program overall was wonderful the administration were an excellent group of women that looked after us as if we were their family memebers. They made sure that we werent taken advantage of and they even invited us into their homes and fed us. we came into the program as strangers seeking an experience that we had never had before but we left as a family. the group of people that we were with was mainly from nevada and so we didnt know them but we left eachother awaiting a reunion. Abigail Thompson is an extraordinary leader, coordinator and now a friend. She and Claudia worked very hard to meet our needs and I am extremely satisfied. I loved my expeience, I love the people I encountered and I love Africa and look forward to studying again in the summer of 2011

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I stayed in a hostel and i was pretty much satisfied with my living. The only thing that I didnt enjoy was the cold water that we had to wash up in everyday. Again it was an experience that I wouldnt trade for anything in the world

once I was able to adjust to the food I was okay for the most part. I have OCD and so my eating habits is based on the cleanliness if the environment. I loved Papayae's chicken and rice but If i couldve ate the food that Abigail provided for us for the whole six weeks i wouldve been perfect.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

the most memorable experiences would have to be our trip to kumasi and to cape coast. I also had an opportunity to visit the refugee camps and the AIDS foundation and this really opened my eyes to alot of things. I went to visit the Kayayoo girls with my social delivery course and I was impacted so much that I came back to the states and am working on a project to fund ten girls schooling each year. I was really moved by this experience

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Health care was easily assesible but I think that everyone was treated for Malaria whether you had it or not because its most common. I thank God that i didnt become ill enough to go to the hospital just a little stomach pain and diarrhea. the vaccines that I took before travelling were the yellow fever vaccination and the malaria pills every week. the only health issues that were prevelent were AIDS and malaria

Every one we encountered spoke english which was great. we had a desire to learn Twi but we were limited to the amount of credit hours we could take.
