Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Since this trip was tailored towards education majors, it was extremely educational for us to be working in a school everyday. It gave me a lot of insight on the amount of work teachers have to put in during class time and out of class time. It was challenging for us to overcome cultural difference, but ultimately it was a great learning experience.

On-site administration of your program

Jamaican schools are very disorganized compared to American schools so working in them did seem hectic at times. However, they were very accommodating and happy to have us.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We stayed in a Methodist church's dorm right in the middle of Falmouth, Jamaica. We had Jamaican neighbors during our stay and walked everywhere the same way everyone else did. It was really grade to be immersed in their culture.

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

We had guides to walk us to and from school everyday as well as bus drivers that knew Dr. Hamar very well so we always felt very protected. For the most part, the Jamaicans were welcoming to us.

This program was equal parts charity work, hard work, and fun. I gain useful knowledge/experience for my career field and I made long lasting relationships with some of the locals that I worked with. I truly loved it.

This trip is actually all inclusive. We had a cook and she made our meals for us everyday so we didn't have to pay for that out of pocket during the trip.
