Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Not a lot of access to academic resources |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
A bit disorganized but nice and well meaning |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I loved my host family, they were fabulous |
* Food: |
My host family provided most of my food |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
There were some activities and places that we were prohibited from experiencing by our program that were very integral to the local culture. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Very safe feeling generally; in exeption, watch out for street harassment |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
I would choose the same country, but not through Amideast, which ACM partners with. The other programs in the country that I learned about while there are more well rounded. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
It was hard; the dinar is approximately 1.5 US dollars. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Not much, maybe 5 dinar. My host family regularly supplied food. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Try to look for the less expensive hole in the wall food places; they have great shwarma and falafel sandwiches. |

How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |

How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Beginner |
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? | None in Arabic |
How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | If you have the opportunity to study if before going, do so. The amount of time you spend speaking Arabic can be greatly effected by how much you can say in Arabic. |
