Wonderful trip with some bumps Past Review
By Katherine N (University of Montevallo) - abroad from 06/11/2015 to 07/30/2015 with
Summit Global Education: Europe - Study Abroad Tour (Multi-Country)
I learned a lot about other cultures and their history, as well as lots of sight seeing. It was very much worthwhile
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I liked the travel, but the schedule was occasionally not available until the day before, and it was a very rigorous class load which piled up at the end allowing for not enough time to explore the different cities. I would have liked if the classes were more spread out, but for traveling in general it was good |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Some teachers were really good, and some were really bad |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
They put you with people you get along with, and they were nice hotels with the noticeable exception of Paris which was a teeny tiny room with no air conditioning, but it is my understanding that is the norm in Paris |
* Food: |
Not all of it was good, but all of it was an adventure |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Except for Barcelona and Prague, we did not get enough time in any city to integrate into anything |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I did not need anything before or during this program, I'd like to put N/A |
* Safety: |
Walking by yourself at night is sketchy, watch out for pick pockets, but for the most part it's been fine |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
No food was included in the program at all except for breakfast in 2 cities for a total of one week, so you had to buy every meal yourself |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $215, which includes food, souvenirs, gifts, extra metro tickets, etc |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Try to use the grocery store as much as you can and not eat out, but of course that's half the fun. You really need to budget at least $200 a week, or you will not have a good trip if you're constantly worrying about it |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | That our time in Prague was heavily dominated by class time, with 3 8-hour days of class and 3 4-hour days, with class 2-6, that left little time to actually see the city |
Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
