SUNY Binghamton: Bath - Exchange & Study Abroad Program at University of Bath

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was amazing! It makes me want to travel more to visit my friends that I met on the program and it's made my life back in the United States so much more rewarding in that I'm more open to trying new things that I would have never tried to experience before. I never expected to gain such a life-changing experience like this. After this year I feel like I'll never be the same again in a good way.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I had an amazing experience studying a subject I love, even more now because of the specific classes they had here geared towards neuroscience. It was definitely a style of teaching to get used to but I believe I had learned more by the system. It is a system in which your putting in your own effort on what you want to know and more of an emphasis on your opinion rather than what the course is outlined to teach you. It is tough especially when the

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The first semester gave more help in how to adjust to the University while the second semester didn't have that many changes to it. There was a lot of freedom and the administration helped where they could.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Nice facilities right in the center of town, easy walk to all the pubs and clubs as well as the bus stations to campus. Although appliances sometimes didn't work Carpenter House was probably the best place for me to live.

I loved the convience of living off campus and living with great people. My language aquisition was non existent since I was a native speaker and everyone else was asking me for help with their english

* Food:

England doesn't have great cuisine but my flatmates and I mostly cooked for one another and enjoyed food from around Europe.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My flatmates and the University Basketball team were the source of how I enjoyed the social life in Bath. We traveled to different parts of England, Europe, and went out to many of the pubs in Bath. It was so much fun!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

E-mails were frequently sent on what health issues were rising in Bath as well as any new security updates. I felt very safe in the city that I was comfortable walking in the middle of the night through the town after a night out.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? All the kitchen wear had to be paid for as well as the bus passes and joining groups on campus. Set a budget is the best advice that I can give to those who have a hard time not spending money. With the exchange rate, it was very tough to keep costs low. So, watch how much you spend carefully.
