Mixing with students from all over the world Past Review
By Dimitrius K (Physics and History, SUNY - Binghamton) for
SUNY Binghamton: Lancaster - Exchange & Study Abroad Program at Lancaster University
My experience was worthwhile. I have a better understanding of the world and has only encouraged me to see the rest of it. I have made great friends which I still stay in contact with and can never forget the wild times we had. It was awesome.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The real teaching is done outside the classroom. Hours were spent in the library (6 to the occasionally 8 hours a day) and whenever I had a difficult time, the instructors were always there. They were also quick to respond to E-mails. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
It was great and I always got a response except for a few occasions. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in the cheapest accommodation but it was still great. I met many people and our floor was like a huge family. Another huge plus was the fact that we all had our own rooms.

It was a great experience. There is really nothing I can say more. |
* Food: |
We had to cook our own food and English Cuisine is really nothing special. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
It was nothing short of Amazing. Traveling was fun, clubs were fun, and even just chilling out in town was great. The rural parts were also great to. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
There really isn't anything dangerous about Lancaster and there were constant posters promoting hygiene. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | About 20 pounds per week for food. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | If you can find a sainsbury, wikmans or an Aldis, you should be good. They have loads of good stuff for low prices. Still, it is difficult considering that the American dollar ain't so strong. |

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Go abroad as yourself, open-minded, ready to learn, and confident, and come back that way, but a little smarter about the world. Don't change for the worst. |

Comments: | Clearly one of the best Physics instructors I ever had. He was ALWAYS available, was funny, and a great instructor. He explained things clearly and accurately. Also, he graded fairly and was willing to look over homework again if he made grading errors. |
