What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, the study abroad experience was something I never imagined but nevertheless experiencing life in a different way is interesting. I gained a valuable experience while visiting professional companies.

Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Winter 2009

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Academic teaching style was direct that students go and get first hand experience in learning about a companies work style and ethic.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

strengths: time management was flexible even along with a schedule. Weaknesses:

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Hotel

Hotel provided everything needed including meals.

* Food:

Food service in hotel was American style mixed with Indian food. Food was typically the same each day.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The non academic portion of the study abroad is very exciting and included a lot of journeys while navigating from one place to another.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Because India is so crowded and mainly lower middle class, health issues are problematic and the number of people and traffic make the place unsafe for foreigners.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? SPending is fairly cheap in India as $1 = about 45 rupees. For 10 days about 200-300 dollars should be sufficient.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

The study abroad in India did not involve learning a new language because English was used, but a few Hindu words were taught to each other.

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Be prepared for the lifestyle and type of food. The student should be comfortable with a very congested city life.
