About
La Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) is a four-year Liberal Arts institution with approximately 3,000 students, ten percent whom are international students. The Ecuadorian government recognizes USFQ as one of Ecuador's leading institution of higher learning. USFQ opened in 1988 and is located in the beatuiful suburb of Cumbaya, a short ride from the city's center.
Students can study at USFQ for one month during the summer or for a semester or year during the fall and/or spring. There are a variety of courses offered at USFQ for students who have a solid background in Spanish. Students (who are not native speakers) are required to have completed at least two years of college level Spanish prior to enrolling in the program. Students will be tested and placed in language classes after arrival in Quito. Some lecture courses are limited to students who place in the more advanced levels of Spanish language ability. All semester courses are taught in Spanish. Summer courses are usually offered in Spanish only. Summer students usually enroll in three courses for a total of 9 credits. Semester students enroll in four to five courses for 12-15 credits. Course offerings change each term.
