What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes the study abroad was worthwhile. I met the most interesting and a good variety of people in a concentrated area. This experience allowed me to realize how much I belong in New York State and appreciate my family and friends at home. It allowed me to learn that there are ALL kinds of people out there in the world. I learned a lot about different culture and geography that I was not well aware of before. There are many people I came across who were really bright and knowledgeable about different things I was never aware of.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The education standards were very low. It is very easy to pass or get a good grade without doing much work. I did not feel that it challenged me. For example their language classes are only taken place once a week and I do not think this will help the students learn much/ excel in their language skills. In Binghamton, foreign language classes are taken place 4-5 days a week, with weekly quizzes. I feel this is more of an effective way of teaching a language

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

looks like a prision

good for student interaction but it is not very clean or welcoming.

* Food:

Food is terrible. Meat didnt taste like the meat they are suppose to taste like.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Safety in newcastle is alarming. There were constant attacks of foreign students. During the semester my chinese teacher was harassed by someone throwing rocks at her and I know someone who got their laptop mugged. I never felt safe walking on campus at night and always called the security shuttle to take me back to my dorm.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? too much...expense it really high in australia. living and eating on campus is really expensive. it cost me around 6 thousand for living and food for 4 months. I suggest you to live and eat on your own. Everything is just expensive in australia.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? How expensive australia is. Nothing is cheap!

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

I learned a lot of new Australian slangs and lingo.
