By Katarina R (HISTORY., SUNY - Binghamton) for
SUNY Buffalo State: Newcastle - University of Newcastle
Yes it was worth it because I got to see a beautiful country and learn a new culture. I learned how to be much more open minded and independent.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I enjoyed learning in Newcastle and the professors were very helpful and approachable which made academic success more attainable. There were also a lot of tutoring sessions available. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in a 3 bedroom townhouse off-campus.

I loved the location of my housing and I felt very comfortable with my living arrangements. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The program itself did not coordinate any social events to help study abroad students meet new people. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I can not remember a time I felt unsafe but I knew not to go out and walk alone by myself at night. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | About $3,000 because food was extremely expensive even thought I went food shopping once a week and cooked at home so that I did not have to eat out. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Transportation fees, it cost me almost $7 a day to go to and from campus because I did not qualify for a reduced fair as a study abroad student. |
