Personal Information

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Most of the classes are not difficult. You have to do the work and attend class, but that should be fairly obvious if you want to do well. Regular university classes are more intense but they are not structured in the same way as American university classes in that they are not watching over you so it's up to you how much you want to put in.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Wonderful host family, very small shared room though.

* Food:

Our family really tried but they had picky kids and day to day meals are more like frozen pizza or hamburgers than authentic Spanish food. Sometimes they cooked really elaborate meals and that was great.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I got to know the city very well and felt very connected to my host family, but my closest friends were people in my program.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $40

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Advanced
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Fluent
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? SPAN3350
How many hours per day did you use the language? 10+

  • Close-knit group
  • Availability of administrators
  • Emphasis on immersion
* What could be improved?
  • Less complicated procedures (esp. class registration)
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Sevilla is a city, but it often feels like a small town. You really have to go out of your way to make friends with local students, but everyone is very friendly and usually loves the novelty of knowing an American once you meet them.
