Not to be Forgotten Past Review
By Allison Miller (University of Iowa) - abroad from 06/28/2019 to 11/11/2019 with
The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Dunedin - University of Otago
I learned how to be independent. My whole traditional support system was quite literally on the other side of the world with a large time difference. If I ever had an issue, I was always able to contact my RA with TEAN and they would always provide a plethora of information to keep me prepared

Dunedin was amazing, with great access to the reason why I went to New Zealand in the first place: the outdoors. Fiordland is a short trip away, so is Mount Cook National Park. There are plenty of options of hikes around Dunedin, including Mount Cargill which is about a 10 minute drive outside the city center. The Otago Peninsula has so many beautiful beaches and the little blue penguins are the cutest ever. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish that I had reached out to my Kiwi Host before arriving, then I could have gotten some non-vital information about my specific flat (ex: culture of the flat, if he tended to socialize with the flats around the one we would be living in etc.). |
Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
