Unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime! Past Review
By Kristen S (Multimedia Journalism, University of Kentucky) - abroad from 08/23/2012 to 12/12/2013 with
The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Gold Coast - Bond University
I learned how to navigate in unfamiliar places. I was not very good at directions but when I was somewhere that was nowhere near home I forced to learn and teach myself. Very worthwhile!

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I learned a lot studying abroad this past fall both inside and outside the classroom. The academics were challenging, but the professors were so helpful and resourceful that I was able to meet with them if I ever needed to. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
I had the best time studying abroad in the Gold Coast, Australia! I met so many amazing people and experienced more things than I could have imagined. The TEAN program was very helpful and organized and were on their A game throughout the semester. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I really liked the dorms at Bond University. They were clean, spacious, and organized when it came to living necessities. I would recommend living on campus in the Accommodation Center. |
* Food: |
The food was good, but I would have liked to see more of a selection of healthy foods such as more salads and sandwiches available. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Bond University is a very exchange friendly school, so I did not meet as many Australians as I thought or wanted to. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I did not have any experience with healthcare, but it was nice to know I had a healthcare plan while abroad so in case anything did happen I was covered. |
* Safety: |
I felt safe in the dorms and felt that if anything were to happen we would be taken care of. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
2.5 |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | It really depends on if I was traveling or not. If I was, I would say a couple hundred. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Save up as much as you can, because you will probably end up spending more than you think. And take advantage of any scholarship opportunities! |
