The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Singapore - Singapore Management University

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Extremely worthwhile. I highly recommend if someone is considering going to do it. Singapore as a country is so advanced that it truly opens your eyes to another way a country is run

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We lived 5 minutes walking distance from the university. Could not have been a more perfect location.

* Food:

Delicious, lots of variety.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

The program did a great job at having us fill out all necessary paperwork prior to arrival.

* Safety:

One of the safest countries in the world.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

It was a life changing program. I had the opportunity to discover Singapore and Asia, as well as make life long friends.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Food is subsidized so it is inexpensive at hawker markets or at university. Singapore however is on the more expensive side in terms of restaurants, night life, etc. It is comparable to NYC prices.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $50
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Meals can be $3 /$4 at hawker markets so if you are trying to save money, I would recommend going there.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
