By Erin Crotty (University of Kentucky) - abroad from 05/17/2017 to 07/20/2017 with
The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Australia Internship Program
I learned so much through my internship that will help me in the future. I also learned about Australia's different culture. I loved every minute of this entire experience.
Personal Information

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
My educational experience was amazing. I learned so much through my internship in Australia. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Alice is the best. She is so kind and caring. She really wanted to make sure everyone was always okay and enjoying themselves throughout the entire abroad experience. She really helped everyone throughout our time abroad. I know everyone in the program really appreciated everything Alice did for us. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Our living arrangements were alright. The room was pretty run down. The staff at the Breakfree on George was not very good and they never gave us working Wifi. My biggest complaint with our living arrangements was the issues everyone had with the Wifi. |
* Food: |
The food was delicious everywhere we went! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I really enjoyed integrating with the local culture on an everyday basis. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I personally did not have any health issues while abroad, but I know the program made it clear that they are always there if anyone needed anything especially if someone needed to see a doctor. |
* Safety: |
I never felt unsafe in my host city. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I loved the experience. I would definitely rather have an internship that was only 4 days a week because we felt there wasn't enough time to explore Sydney during the week. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
The budget sheet given to us was not very accurate prior to the trip. They did not account for the $500 that I spent on just transportation to my internship. It was $10 a day for me to get to work. The travel and cost of living should definitely be more accurate. I feel like the expenses sheet needs to be updated and more realistic. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $350 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Definitely try and eat in during the week. Also plan your trips early because the earlier the cheaper the hotel rooms and flights. |
