Studying Abroad In Australia with The Education Abroad Network was a Fantastic Decision! Past Review

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Sydney - University of New South Wales
Studying abroad was the best decision I have made as a college student. It has increased my cultural awareness and independence and it was amazing to be immersed in a foreign culture for an extended period of time. I was able to both study and intern while abroad, and it was fascinating to compare the culture to American culture. After college, there are not as many opportunities to go explore a foreign country of city for a five month period of time, and I recommend taking advantage of this chance. I am extremely jealous of many of my friends who will be studying abroad in the spring and the amazing experiences that they will have!

* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
At the University of New South Wales, all of the classes I took were interesting. The grading and work load were not unreasonable and I was able to have my class credits transfer easily back to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The professors wanted their students to have a positive learning experience and had a strong passion for the courses they were teaching. |

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) was extremely helpful in regards to pre-departure necessities, and once I landed in Australia. Study Australia had a fantastic five day orientation program in Sydney before the semester began, which allowed me to become more acclimated with the country. Study Australia also had a special relationship with the University of New South Wales which allowed me to sign up for classes before other abroad students. Once in Australia, TEAN was very helpful in answering any questions I had from which bank to open an account at to what events shouldn't be missed. Their frequent emails regarding what was happening in Sydney throughout the semester and constant opportunities to interact with TEAN advisers was also extremely helpful throughout the semester. The amazing housing and fantastic trips that are unique to TEAN also make it superior to other study abroad programs. Being in a foreign country it was important to me to have a very helpful, knowledgeable program provider, and TEAN was everything I could have wanted and more! |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The housing set up by the Education Abroad Network was fantastic. I lived in the Tiffany Apartments in Bondi Junction, which was about a 10 minute train ride outside of downtown Sydney. The amenities in the building were fantastic and included a workout facility, game room, pool, tennis courts, and a 24-hour concierge services to help with any problem, and made me feel safe in my housing. My apartment had the most amazing view of downtown Sydney, along with the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The apartments also came with all living necessities such as blankets, sheets, pillows, towels, dishes, silverware, glasses, a washer/dryer, full kitchen, flat screen TV, couches, and more, making it easy to transition into a new living situation. The opportunity that Study Australia provides is one superior to any other program, and watching the sunset over the Sydney skyline was one of my favorite memories of my abroad experience. |
* Food: |
The food in Sydney was great! There was a large variety of food options, and living across from the largest mall in Sydney, there were plenty of easily accessible restaurants, food courts, and grocery stores. I keep Kosher, and to my surprise there was a Kosher section in my nearest grocery store, and plenty of non-meat options for me to eat! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Living in the Tiffany Apartments, there were hundreds of other study abroad students living within my building which was amazing. It was just a short elevator ride or walk up the stairs to see a majority of my friends. It was nice that so many of my friends lived in the same building so it was easy to always have someone to go to and from places with. Also, the orientation program and pre-semester trips were a great way to meet people. I went on an eight day pre-semester trip to the Whit Sunday Islands and Cairns and it was great to be with a smaller group of 40 people before the semester began. I made many of my closest friends on this trip. Also, throughout the semester TEAN sets up lunches and other events for abroad participants to be social with each other, along with interact with the TEAN staff. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Luckily, I did not have any health issues during my time abroad. I felt very safe throughout my entire stay in Australia. The housing had 24 hour security, and I was never put in a potentially dangerous situation. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Take advantage of the amazing opportunity to study abroad and do it through The Education Abroad Network (TEAN). TEAN helps through every pre-departure step from picking classes, to group flights, to helping obtain a student visa, to setting up unbelievable housing, to answering any possible question that I may have had. They were also fantastic once I arrived in Sydney, and went above and beyond my expectations of a study abroad program. |
