What an Adventure! Past Review
By Courtney Burns (Emmanuel College (Massachusetts)) - abroad from 02/08/2016 to 07/01/2016 with
The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Wellington - Victoria University of Wellington
Through my study abroad experience with TEAN, I learned that the world is a much larger place than I imagined. I learned about entirely new cultures that I had never learned about in America and I actually learned a lot about the States as well. I got to do so many exciting and adventurous things that I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise, like zorbing or piloting a plane!

* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
New Zealand was the first time I ever lived in an apartment, and it was nice that TEAN essentially handled it all for me while I just had to focus on getting there. I had two awesome flatmates from different parts of the world and it was a great way to meet people. |
* Food: |
New Zealand food is great, especially their deserts-- I basically lived off of Whittaker's chocolate the whole time I was there. They also have farmers markets around the city year round! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Everyone is very nice and welcoming toward foreigners in Wellington! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
Although I never had any health issues in NZ, I had a few friends who did and TEAN was very helpful in getting them the support they needed. |
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I can't imagine studying abroad with anyone but TEAN. They were so helpful through every step of the process and the website/application is so easy to use. They gave me all the tools I needed to be a successful student while abroad. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Living on an island country can be expensive at times, but I did most of my grocery shopping at the farmers market and that was always super cheap! |

The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
