The Experiment: France: Cultural Discovery

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Attending The Experiment trip gave me a good sense of the reality in a different country. I got to meet my groupmates, my host family, and even random people who became friends. My group mates were really good and fun. My host family was amazing. I got to see how the typical small town in France is and I met their family members. A big highlight of my trip was celebrating Bastille day with the whole town. Switzerland was very cool. Everything was expensive, but the town was very beautiful and right on the lake.

Very amazing place.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The money situation was pretty good. The group leaders normally gave us money to have lunch and dinner. Breakfast was normally provided by the hotels. Bring some money for souvenirs. Also, Switzerland is expensive so plan for that.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $80
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't give in to the urges. Save money unless it is worth it. Some souvenirs are cheaper a couple of shops down so also compare prices.
