What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot of experience living in a foreign country where you do not speak the local language and need to adapt to different customs and social standards. It was entirely worthwhile and still have not stopped talking about it.

I stayed in a very nice apartment in a central location next to the main river!

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I learned an incredible amount about filmmaking and met countless people that were interesting, friendly, and intelligent. The city and culture stole my heart and I can't wait to go back again.

I don't think the program really cared about whether we ultimately used the Czech we learned or not.

What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? SPAN 241, but no prior experience with Czech at all.
How many hours per day did you use the language?
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Try using terminology when completing simple everyday tasks such as ordering food in a restaurant or asking which tram to take.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • learning a great deal about filmmaking and being able to create my own short film shot on 35mm
  • meeting extremely interesting and new people
* What could be improved?
  • more intensive language courses and an emphasis on the students using it outside of the classroom
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? there is nothing to worry about! you'll find your way around and adjust better than you may think!
