The GREEN Program: Iceland - Sustainability and Renewable Energy Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned about energy, science, math, friendship, I leaned about people, and places, about living in an incredibly different place, honestly I learned too much to write. It was most definitely worth my while!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Fantastic in many ways, it allowed for very hands on learning and gave great exposure to an entrepreneurial project. The learning in this program was also greatly subsidized by the rest of the students and how immensely knowledgeable they are!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Fantastic relations with everyone that led the program and helped us on our experience.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing could have been a little better, but it was perfect for what we where doing, more than anything the lack of Internet was an issue, as it was such an important resource that we did not have sufficient access to.

* Food:

Overall very good and diverse home cooked meals!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I would have liked a little bit more of a social integration, but with the very busy schedule I completely understand why this program is not able to provide as much of a social immersion.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It was quite easy and you could spend as little or as much as you liked, for the most part we were always well fed and ready to go, most of my money was spend on snacking and tourism of Reykjavik.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 150€
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Buy bulk snacks at home, and if you are thinking of buying alcohol at all do so at the airport otherwise you will leave the country completely broke.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
