Very memorable Past Review

Tufts Programs Abroad: Tufts in Hong Kong
I think i learned a lot from going abroad and it was extremely worthwhile. My favorite part of the program was the reading period during which we had time for traveling. Asia is also pretty cheap so there is some more freedom in that regard. My view of the world definitely changed thanks to that semester.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes at the University of Hong Kong were fine overall. However, there was absolutely no feedback given for most courses and the professors felt no need to explain the reasoning behind our final grades. I asked a professor over email to either send me my final exam [worth 60% of my grade] or explain my mistakes to me over email and he flat out refused. I never received a graded copy of an essay or exam in any of my 5 classes that semester. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Extremely well organized program :) |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Housing was okay. I don't feel very strongly about this because it is not something i tend to dwell on when looking back on my experience. |
* Food: |
It's different and cheap. wide selection. There was some trouble finding affordable western food- but that is a part of the experience. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I didn't feel extremely integrated, but I think that it is particularly hard to feel integrated with the locals in Hong Kong. They don't tend to reach out. I did make some local friends and met many people from other universities. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I didn't have any issues so I have no complaints. |
* Safety: |
Hong Kong is extremely safe. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I used my own money for traveling and some other expenses but otherwise the student budget was acceptable. |
* Was housing included in your program cost? | Yes |
* Was food included in your program cost? | No |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $140 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | don't snack at 7/11. |
