Tufts Programs Abroad: Tufts in Oxford

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Definitely worthwhile - I couldn't have done anything better during my junior year. I've made friends from all over the world who have already come to visit me in the U.S. Oxford encouraged me to pursue a senior thesis and taught me that I can handle independent, self-taught learning.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Very focused, very independent, extremely challenging and individualized.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I have never dealt with such an efficient administration.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

VERY DIFFICULT FOR VEGETARIANS. We were required to carry around an ID.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I rowed as part of the Boat Club and loved it.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 40 GBP
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I wouldn't recommend joining the Oxford Union - very expensive and hard to take advantage of in one year unless you want access to the library.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Oxford is not in London. You go to Oxford to be a part of the university, not necessarily to explore London city. Be ready to challenge yourself and have access to opportunities you never thought possible in undergraduate study.
