About
This faculty will be teaching a similar program in Florence.
Drugs, Behavior, and History of Neuroscience in Greece will explore psychopharmacology and neuroscience from antiquity to modern times. You will learn a broad background into the pharmacology of psychoactive drugs, including drugs of addiction and therapeutics. This will be accompanied by a deep investigation of the origins of modern pharmacology and medicine in ancient Greece, including one of the first major pharmacopeias, the Dioscorides' Materia Medica. This will also include an exploration into the origins of modern scientific medicine in antiquity, including a visit to the medical school of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine.
We will try to envision how treatment for psychiatric disorders evolved from antiquity. Together, students will gain a broad understanding of psychopharmacology.
