Amazing FSE Program April 26, 2025

By (Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Wellesley College) - abroad from 01/10/2025 to 04/26/2025 with

Umbra Institute: Perugia - The Food and Sustainability Studies Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The interdisciplinary Food, Sustainability, and Environment program was an amazing opportunity to use food as a vehicle to approach learning about Italian culture, sustainability, and the environment. Whether this was through visiting or receiving lectures from various actors involved in Italy's food systems, the FSE program allowed engagement with and opportunities to apply what we learn about in more traditional academic settings in a more practical and interactive way.

  • Diversity of the program
  • Transportation to and from airports
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Lots of really fun weekend trips for the FSE program, so plan independent travel around it. Perugia is a really cute small city, but be prepared for the weather to be on the colder side for most of the semester, and to have to travel pretty far to get to the airports for travel.
