Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

All the oportunities were available to get as much as you wanted out of the education. The teachers were all so enthusiastic about what they did, they passed out their e-mails and other personal contact info should we want to keep intouch, academically or otherwise, in the future. They also rotate between teaching their respective subjects to Mexican undergrads and exchange undergrads, so the material is not dumbed down at all due to the language barrier--instead international students are encouraged to step up.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Again the administration were all just generally good people. When I returned to visit 5 months after my abroad program, they welcomed me like family and invited me to use all the resources, and spoke with me like a long-time friend. They are genuinely interested in their students and love to be loved back. Their doors are always open, yet they still balance a professional and efficient office--just with smiles and open arms.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Shared a room with one or two people, and there were two other rooms that also had 1 or 2 foreigners--from whatever countries. There was a 'spanish only' rule in the house, but it wasn't strictly followed. The family were super sweet and the food was incredible. After getting to know them better, the family also invited students to join them on family outings, and I even recieved some follow up phone calls from one of the daughters in the family just to see how things were going and catch up on some life changes. Very friendly, and again very sincere and genuine.

The area was beautiful, and I felt safe and well looked after by the community. The neighbors were super friendly and we were relatively close to everything.

* Food:

my seniora was an excellent cook---and i had crazy dietary restrictions, but she accomodated them wonderfully.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? not much

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
Language acquisition improvement?

I was a big spanish mess before I went, barely passing 102, and not for a lack of effort. It was important for me to learn, so I decided to go abroad.....after two months I jumped to the advanced level and returned to my home university to take upper level courses in spanish for hispanic students and do very well. I rarely spoke english, however, while I was in Mexico. The opportunities truely are endless.
