Universidad Nacional de Cuyo: Mendoza - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I really thought the program was great. It's pretty small (there were 30 students when I was there) which means you can get more personal attention.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes at Universidad del Congreso were more challenging that those at UNCuyo mostly because the students were more engaged/interested.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The director and support staff were wonderful, helpful, kind and giving people.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in the center of the city in a small house with a 35-year-old single teacher.

* Food:

My host "mom" always provided great, fresh foods.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We had a wine education demonstration and an overnight white-water rafting trip which were both fun.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I never felt unsafe in the city, although I know of people who were pick-pocketed.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

I can't really comment because this was my second semester abroad in Argentina and I was excused from language classes.

Argentine Literature, 20 Century

Course Department: UN Cuyo - Letras
Instructor: don't remember
Instruction Language: Spanish
Comments: At times it was challenging because it required group projects. Most of the time, students were expected to read for homework and class was a powerpoint of useless information on the author's life.

Intro to Anthro

Course Department: History (UNCuyo)
Instructor: don't remember
Instruction Language: Spanish
Comments: A huge lecture class where I was the only American in 200+ students. That said, the class was mostly freshman and I felt extremely prepared for it because I was more mature than most of them (I was used to studying in college).
