What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Of course, I think that everyone should live abroad at least once in their life.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Cristina is the best program director one could ask for. She is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

apartment was very nice but our program didn't tell us we would need necessities like towels, sheets, toilet paper, etc. They also didn't tell us we would be sharing rooms. Living in an apartment with 2 other Americans did nothing for improving my Spanish. The neighborhood was very safe and close to shopping, a major attraction (plaza espanya), the train station, and multiple metro stops.

* Food:

cheap fresh vegetables and fruit daily. lots of homemade bread, made daily. little to no spicy food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Theft is huge in Spain. Pay close attention to all belongs, especially when walking around the city and subway system.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 30 euros
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? sheets, towels, decent cooking supplies, school supplies

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Beginner
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? Intermediate 2
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

The host university did not have any Spanish students and therefore it was difficult to practice the language. One could practice Spanish with those who work in supermarkets, stores, etc, but most people knew English. My language would have improved if I had been able to communicate with Spanish university students.

Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

International Marketing

Course Department:
Instructor: Gabriel Izard
Instruction Language: English
Comments: The professor was very difficult to understand as he had not yet mastered the English language. Additionally, his tests were confusing as the concepts he taught us and the concepts I had previously learned at my home university were completely different. Finally, the course did not really focus on the international aspect of marketing as much as I would have liked.

Comments: The professor clearly understands the topic and has a fair amount of international experience. However, the tests are based on statistics, facts, and figures. This is different from the tests we typically take in the U.S, which are based on concepts, theories, and application.
