I continued to learn about different cultures and history. I loved the people I met but struggled to grow closer to them due to different schedules and assignments.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
This was Research work and you get out what you put in |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Not a lot of communication regarding where we would stay, living conditions, and basic information that should be provided |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Basic needs are met. Air conditioning and cold showers with working toilets. |
* Food: |
V4 cafe is the best. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Not enough forced/planned interactions and events between internacional students and locals |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
Uncommunicated issues arouse on campus like potential mercury poisoning in an academic building that were actually false claims and the real issue encountered ended up being a professor committing suicide. |
* Safety: |
Safe on campus, but there are a lot of poor areas in this country that you have to be aware and make wise decisions. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
This program isn't for everyone, but if you're laid back, self-aware and don't mind having to adapt to different environments, then this program is for you. I had fun and would love to have this experience again. The thing that took away from it the most was complaining and negative thoughts shared among study abroad group. I wish more time was spent meeting new people and gaining experiences. I enjoy meeting new people and don't mind being alone at times. But not everyone is like this. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Country is very cheap, but transportation cost add up because there's nothing to do in Seri Iskandar and you get bored. Traveling costs is what makes it expensive. Also living for 2 months in air conditioning is only $300 |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Don't let other people's behavior and thoughts prevent you from making the most of the experience. Have fun and don't worry. |
