It was a life-changing experience that can't be summed up in a line. Past Review
By A student (Presbyterian College) - abroad from 01/02/2012 to 05/25/2012 with
University College Cork: Cork - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
This is an absolutely impossible question to answer. I've begun to see my life through "Pre-Ireland" and "Post-Ireland" viewpoints. I learned so much about myself, my interests, my desires, my possibilities, and my friends. I wouldn't trade it for ten sacks of diamonds. So yes, it was worthwhile - though that is an understatement.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Very different from what I was used to. My classes were between 100-200 people each (very different from my small college experience), and I was assigned no tests or other assignments prior to the final exam. The professors were focused primarily on research and on simply relaying information than on teaching students. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The administration was very helpful and friendly! The International Education Office at UCC was always there to help. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I had some roommate issues, but the housing itself was fine. |
* Food: |
I made all my own meals, so this question isn't applicable. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I couldn't have felt happier to be a part of the local culture. I met many Irish friends who helped me learn more about all parts of Irish culture. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
We got a good overview in orientation, but nothing after that. |
* Safety: |
We had several fire drills in our apartment complex. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
It was expensive, but manageable with a great dinner program with the college. |
* Was housing included in your program cost? | No |
* Was food included in your program cost? | No |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | About 30 euros, or 50 dollars. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | If you're studying in Cork, do the college dinners program! It's fantastic! |

Direct Enrollment/Exchange
* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? | Direct Enrollment |
