What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The people that I met and the friends I made, whether they were part of the program or local students, made the experience worthwhile. Being open to ideas and experiences that I had not planned on, were actually what made the experience that much better.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were a joke and I could have skipped every class and still passed

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Mary and Zoe were great and joyfully answered any question that I had.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Selsey Close, Varley Halls of Residence Campus

I loved the fact that I did not live with all international students, but with local students. I did not like the fact that they split the American students up on different campuses, because they overbooked their allowed study abroad students. The students I lived with were great and I believe that living with local students is what helped me learn the most while over there.

* Food:

The tiny refrigerators were far to small to fit enough food for six people to live off of, which we had to do since there were six of us in our flat.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The night life is very large there, the locals always want to be hanging out with friends and love to include others, and there was a big festival in May that was really cool.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I only felt unsafe a couple of times, but that is mainly just because I am a girl and I got kind of nervous when I was out at night by myself catching a bus.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? It probably ended up being about 100 pound every couple of weeks, but it all depends on how often you go to pubs/bars/clubs as well as what kind of food you like to buy from the grocery store. The 100 pounds probably includes going out twice in those two weeks as well as getting some food to keep you going. But if you plan to go out more than that, or you like to have a lot of options for food, you definitely need more than that.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? The night life can get expensive, and there is something to do every night, not just the weekend. Plus, since the classes are not as demanding it is easier to not feel bad about going out more often, but the costs will haunt you.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
