By Elaine R (N/A, Illinois State University) for
University of Brighton - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
My experience abroad has completely changed the way I view the world. It has made me realize there is so much more out there. I really hope that I have more opportunities to travel now.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
In this program, we were required to complete all of the assignments for Illinois State University prior to leaving. Therefore, I felt like the workload was incredibly lighter once I was abroad. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
I believe that they prepared me very well and I was ready for my trip when I got there. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived in a very welcoming home and safe neighborhood. My host family was very helpful and nice. |
* Food: |
A few other students and I really enjoyed Wetherspoons in Eastbourne. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I loved the Paris trip!!! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I hurt my foot one weekend and my host family took very good care of me. They made sure I saw the pharmacist and got the right kind of treatment. My program leaders stayed in contact with me until they knew I was better. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | About $50 per week. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Remember that you are going to be abroad for a long time, so it is important to stretch your money as much as you can. I think a common mistake made is that you save so much money so you feel like you have a lot when you first get there and can go a little crazy spending it, but then run out very quickly. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
