A Dane at Heart Past Review
By Anna Blankenship (The University of Texas at Austin) - abroad from 09/10/2016 to 12/17/2016 with
University of Copenhagen: Copenhagen - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
Learning how to become independent while still knowing when it's okay to ask for help. How to live more with less. Completely worthwhile!

Review Your Program

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
|
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The housing foundation for students is not good at all. They are late to respond and I felt ripped off. |
* Food: |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I never needed to go the doctor or hospital but I knew I would have access with my CPR. |
* Safety: |
Never felt dangerous or in a bad situation. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I really enjoyed doing the exchange because I didn't want to be abroad and then be with the same group of American students everyday. I wanted to be in classrooms with local and international students. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Grocers are very expensive in Copenhagen but you just really need to learn what you really will eat and what food you will just sit in your fridge. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $50-$150 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Make lists of things you need weekly Fund student discounts |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Look out for student discounts early on, when you see something you want to do, don't put it off but do it sooner than later. There are things I wanted to do around Copenhagen that I never got to do because I thought I could do them later. |
