cOPENhagen? Past Review
By Geera P (Economics., The University of Texas at Austin) for
University of Copenhagen: Copenhagen - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
No, it set me behind academically and I was extremely unimpressed and disappointed. It has not changed much of my future plans.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
No hands on, and very little help. Most students were completely lost and the teachers seemed to teach harder material though the students did not learn it. Many mistakes and poor organization of teaching. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The economics advisor was extremely unhelpful and rude, in addition, the housing and the academic advisors were unresponsive to emails and complaints. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The university did not find housing til a week before my departure. I had less than 24 hours to decide on the apartment and had to pay the full amount within a week or I lost the apartment. The apartment I stayed in just had a bed in the living room so there was no privacy as well as it was located in social welfare housing for the elderly so the neighbours complained of noise even in vaccuming in the rooms. In addition, much of the furniture was unassembled and arrived late after we had been living there for 3 weeks. The neighborhood was mostly safe except on occasion there were drunkards and heroin users in the lobby of the apartment. |
* Food: |
Good access to a grocery store but very little food there and was closed for a 1.5 months. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Friday bar at the campus. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I was fairly disappointed in the health system, because I had a bacterial infection and was not given any antibiotics, and the nurse called two days later to tell me about what vitamins I should take instead. In addition, the medicine was very expensive. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | No I lived very cheaply. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I had a fairly poor experience compared to most so it is unwise for me to give words of wisdom without cynicism. |
