University of East Anglia: Norwich - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I loved the people I met, and it was a good university, especially the writing program. But it was hard to see everything I wanted to in europe, and frustrating that there was nothing near the university, with cabs or buses required to get anywhere.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

There wasn't a cafeteria or meal plan, just a few cafes on campus and buying food, even from grocery stores, was very expensive.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I mean, you're paying in pounds. It is very expensive. That said, I did sometimes go out in town, and that added to my expenses a lot because of cabs, covers to get in etc.

* Was housing included in your program cost? No
* Was food included in your program cost? No
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Over $100.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Do lots of research, especially for traveling, to get the best deals, and book far in advance. Go out to eat very rarely, and mostly for curry. Walk and avoid paying for taxes/buses as much as possible.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • My Flatmates
  • My Classes
* What could be improved?
  • Not the best location for travel
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? How expensive it would be, how inconvenient travel could be, that they would only let me take 3 classes. Also, after living in New Orleans, English weather can be very depressing. I'm serious.
