A great semester in Norwich Past Review

By (Journalism., University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign) - abroad from 01/08/2014 to 06/08/2014 with

University of East Anglia: Norwich - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, it was worthwhile. The most important things I learned came from my experiences talking with my new exchange friends and flatmates. Traveling was also an amazing opportunity. I also liked being integrated with the other English students for classes.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

UEA was less academically challenging than University of Illinois.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The study abroad office and HUB did a good job of being available.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in Suffolk Terrace and liked the location and my flatmates. The kitchen and bathrooms were often dirty though. Our cleaners were great, I think it was due to the other flatmates.

* Food:

There should be more food options available on campus. The first night the study abroad office should help the students get food. I, and others I met later, went the first night with no food and no knowledge of where to find food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It would've helped more if I joined a club or something.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not have a health care experience.

* Safety:

Norwich seemed very safe. I never heard of any incidents.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I found it hard not to spend a lot of money, but I like to do a lot of activities and go into town a lot.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Depending on the week, 100 pounds.

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Exchange
